About

A little about Jon Allison

Or, being somewhat vertically challenged, about little Jon Allison perhaps?

I have been passionate about photography since my early days at college where I studied photography among other subjects. I’m quite happy to say that I have no formal qualifications in photography, just a keen eye, positive attitude, many years experience, and the choice of all the fantastic Lake District locations on my doorstep. Oh, and a very good camera and lenses too!

I spent some 20 years in the outdoor industry. Firstly at Glacier Sport back in my Preston days. My wife and I moved up to Kendal in 1993 when my business partner and I opened the popular Kentdale Rambler outdoor store in the town centre. This eventually became Kentdale Outdoor as we sold a lot of climbing and mountaineering equipment and didn’t want to tarnish our brush with the phrase “rambler”. Our local hard climbers would not have liked that....

During this time I was either out climbing myself or photographing my climbing mates and began realise I was quite serious about this photography thing. However, in the spring of 2000, a serious motorbike accident proved something of a life changer for me. A long time spent in recovery led me to looking back through many years of my photography archives. And the rest, as they say, is history! 22 years later I'm still here, wandering the fells and valleys with my camera doing what I do best. I will be updating this site regularly, so watch this space........
